Talakona Falls and Srikalahasti Forest Escape

The tallest waterfall in Andhra Pradesh, about 82 m (270 ft), inside the Sri Venkateswara National Park. Entry is paid at the forest check post a few km before the falls (included). From the parking it is a walk of about 1.5 km each way over rocks, roots and small streams, so allow 2 to 2.5 hours in all. Bathe only where the forest staff allow it. The forest closes at sunset.

A small Shiva temple near the start of the path to the falls. Locals say it is about 140 years old. Footwear off at the steps. It is very crowded on Shivaratri and in the Karthika month.

A small waterfall, about 12 m (40 ft), that falls into a pool next to a Shiva and Parvati temple, just off the Puttur road. Well laid steps lead up from the car park in about 5 minutes. A small entry and footwear fee may be collected (included where charged). Fullest from August to January.

A grand old Shiva temple on the Swarnamukhi river, known all over South India for the Rahu Ketu pooja. Darshan is free. Pooja tickets are bought at the temple counter on the day (Approx Rs 500 to Rs 2,500 by hall), and the pooja itself takes about 45 minutes. Traditional dress, and avoid black clothes. Many families go straight on after this pooja without visiting another temple, which is why we keep it as the last stop.
