Overview

A short, easy trip for families, couples and groups of friends who want a river and waterfall break close to Bengaluru. A private car with driver picks you up from home and stays with you both days, and tolls, parking and driver charges are already paid. You see the falls from the viewpoint tower and the hanging bridge, take an optional coracle ride right up to the spray, and eat fresh fish fry by the river. Hogenakkal hotels are simple, and there is no 4 or 5 star hotel here, so think of this as a nature break, not a resort holiday. The honest part: when the Kaveri is in flood, the district stops coracle rides and bathing, sometimes for weeks, usually between July and October. Best from November to February.

Pickup from your home at about 6 AM and breakfast near Krishnagiri. Reach Hogenakkal by late morning to see the falls from the viewpoint tower and the hanging bridge, then take a coracle ride if the river is open. Lunch on fresh fish fry by the river, a visit to the crocodile centre, and an optional oil massage before you check in. About 180 km, 4.5 hours of driving with stops.

Hogenakkal viewpoint tower and hanging bridge

Walk along the rocks to the hanging bridge and climb the viewpoint tower for the widest look at the falls and the gorge. A small entry fee is paid at the gate, and we cover it. Paths are wet and slippery near the spray.

Local masseurs give a traditional oil massage on the rocks, then you bathe in the marked area. Bathing is allowed only in the marked areas and only when the district allows it. Agree the price first.
