A taste from your trip
Savandurga monolith trek
The forest department trail starts near the Kempegowda tree park and climbs about 2 km to the Nandi mantapa on top of Biligudda, the white hill. Allow about 3 hours up and down. Long parts are smooth, steep rock where you lean forward and use your hands, with old fort walls on the way. Entry is only with an online forest permit, which we book for you with your ID details. Carry the same ID. No plastic, and the trail closes after heavy rain.
If it rains: Wet granite on Savandurga is very slippery, and the forest department closes the trail after heavy rain, so if it rains in the morning we skip the climb. Spend longer at the Lakshmi Narasimha and Savandi Veerabhadraswamy temples at the base, which are covered, and add the Ranganathaswamy temple at Magadi. Manchanabele looks lovely under cloud, but stay off the muddy banks. The Big Banyan Tree gives good cover in light rain. The roads are fine, though Bengaluru traffic gets slower when it rains.
