Gokarna and Murudeshwar Coast Trail

Four streams named Raja, Rani, Rocket and Roarer drop into a deep green gorge. Fullest from August to November, thinner by summer. Some viewpoints may be closed for renovation work.

The 123 foot Shiva statue faces the Arabian sea. Ride the lift up the 20 storey Raja Gopura for the view, then evening darshan. Dress modestly, a dress code applies inside the sanctum.

A small falls in the rocks and a quiet beach next to it. A few steps down.

A moss covered laterite fort with moats, wells and secret passages. Small ASI ticket.

A wide curved beach below the cliffs, with cafes for a sunset chai. Swim only where the lifeguards say it is safe.

One of the oldest Shiva temples on the coast, said to hold the Atmalinga. Men must remove shirts and wear a dhoti or lungi in the inner area, no jeans or shorts. Women in saree or salwar. Lungis are sold outside.

A short walk down the old temple street to the town beach.

Two huge black rock spires in the forest with a cave shrine. About 500 m walk and some uneven steps from parking. Wear shoes with grip, and go barefoot near the shrine.

Two bays joined in the shape of the Om symbol. Shallow water at the near end, water sports in season.
